The Environmentally Friendly Choice

Seal-Once Marine is a non-toxic waterproofing wood sealer that can be used over open water as it exceeds current eco-requirements. It is safe for use around plants, pets, livestock, or people, is non-combustible and non-flammable, and will not burn your skin. Seal-Once Marine is easy to clean up as it is water-based and only requires soap and water.

Proprietary Nanotechnology

Based on cutting-edge science, Seal-Once Marine protects your wood at the sub-micron level. Each molecule connects with another to produce a lattice framework, soaking deep into your wood’s fibers. This lattice framework protects your structures from exposure to the sun, salt, and water. The curing process of Seal-Once Marine creates a dense but transparent film, preventing it from damaging your wood structure over time. Seal-Once Marine Protects your wood from:

  • UV rays
  • Mold
  • Mildew
  • Water
  • Cracking
  • Splitting
  • Warping

Seal-Once Marine Colors

Offered in a Clear finish as well as nine semi-transparent tints including Light Brown, Natural, Brown, Mahogany, Redwood, Bronze Cedar, Cedar, Black, and Coastal Gray. If you select the Clear finish, expect your wood to naturally turn gray over time as it does not contain tints that provide sunscreen. You will still enjoy superior waterproofing protection with a clear finish.  Note: Tints are shown on Red Cedarwood samples.

Seal-Once Marine Coverage

Coverage varies based on wood porosity. At least two coats are required. Do not thin.

1 Gallon 200 – 300 square feet, per coat
5 Gallon 1000 – 1500 square feet, per coat

When to Apply

Signs it is time to waterproof your wood include:

  • You have a new wood structure without stain and sealer.
  • There is no other waterproofing product on the wood.
  • Your pressure-treated wood is at least 6 months old.
  • Your wood has been cleaned and is completely dry (We recommend All Wood Cleaner for proper deep cleaning).
  • After a rain, the water is soaking into the wood instead of running off.
  • Your wood is warping, cracking, or splitting.
  • The air temperature is above 35 °F (2 °C).

If your wood has deep stains or mold, we recommend pressure washing with a wood cleaner and brightener before you apply, like All Wood Cleaner.

Mixing in the Tint

Seal-Once Marine is distributed as a clear base to which you will add a separate tint that comes in a small bottle if you purchased a tinted product. Each tint bottle is enough to tint 1 gallon of clear base.

  • For 1 gallon of the clear base, mix in 1 bottle of tint.
  • For 5 gallons of the clear base, mix in 5 bottles of tint.

Mix or shake very well to makes sure tint is fully incorporated with the clear base. Mix frequently throughout the application, this ensures a uniform color.

Applying Seal-Once Marine

Tools:

Bristle brush, like a Wooster Professional Stain Brush

OR

Air assisted or airless sprayer (use tip size between 0.017″ – 0.019″)

Apply in the shade for the best results. If applying in the sun is unavoidable, lightly mist the wood with water, and immediately apply. Do not apply if rain is forecasted that day.

  1. Requires at least two coats. Apply the first coat until the wood will not absorb any more product.
  2. Start the second coat as soon as the first is damp, but not wet. Older wood will likely need more than 2 coats.
  3. Keep applying coats until all holes and cracks have been filled.
  4. If using a sprayer, apply Seal-Once Marine in a medium or coarse spray pattern, and use a bristle brush to remove any puddles.
  5. Cover the entire surface and ends of the wood.

Drying Time for Seal-Once Marine

  • The temperature and sun exposure affect drying time. Expect it to be dry enough to walk on in 2-3 hours.
  • After 24 hours, you can apply paint or stain.

Clean-Up for Seal-Once Marine

Clean-up is simple and requires only warm water and soap. Seal up any remaining Seal-Once Marine well and do not store in a place that may get below freezing temperature (32°F) Seal-Once Marine has an indefinite shelf life.

Ongoing Maintenance of Wood with Seal-Once Marine

When to Re-Apply

Re-apply when:

  • Water on the wood soaking into the wood fibers instead of running off.
  • Color (tint) is fading.
  • There is surface damage that exposes bare wood.
  • High traffic areas have worn away Seal-Once Marine.
  • Any time the wood looks noticeably different.

How to Re-Apply

Before re-application, you must clean the wood to ensure the next coat will penetrate into the wood, as well as remove mold, mildew, stains, and grime. Do not use corrosives, oxidizers, or any strippers to clean your wood. We recommended using only the following homemade cleaning solution:

DIY Cleaning Solution Ingredients

  • 1 gallon of warm water
  • 14 ounces of household bleach
  • 1 ounce of Dawn® Dish Detergent

DIY Cleaning Solution Directions

  1. Apply the cleaning solution with a sprayer.
  2. Allow the solution to rest on the wood for 20-30 minutes.
  3. Thoroughly rinse the wood with a garden hose.

Once the surface is clean and dry, reapply following the application instructions above. If applying to a small area only ensure a uniform look by slightly overlapping the new coat with the old.

About Waterproofing Pressure Treated Wood

When should I apply Seal-Once Marine to new Pressure-Treated wood?

Pressure-treated wood is made by treating the lumbar with chemicals during the manufacturing process, the treatment is meant to reduce maintenance and prolong the life of the wood. The process of creating pressure-treated causes it to become denser than regular wood. Because of this, pressure-treated lumber is not ready for any waterproofing for some time after processing

In order to sort out whether the pressure-treated wood is ready for waterproofing, do a water test. To do this, spill a small amount of water on the wood. If it runs off right away, keep waiting for the pressure-treated wood to dry out. But if the water absorbs into the wood or puddles up, it’s time to add a waterproofer.
